What should you take with you?

Summer

When travelling to the The Daintree Rainforest in Summer it is important to wear cool, loose fitting clothes as the days can get very hot. Loose fitting clothing will keep you cool but also make it harder for mosquitoes to bite through. Shorts and light cotton t-shirts will keep you cool, a light jacket is also recommended.

It is important to wear comfortable walking shoes. Big hiking boots are not necessary but comfortable shoes with good grip and support are needed such as sneakers or runners. You should also bring a cool pair of footwear such as sandals or thongs.

While you are inside the rainforest you are shielded from the harsh sun. While you are outside the rainforest or doing activities in the surrounding areas of the rainforest the sun can be very harsh. You should be wearing sunscreen, hats and sunglasses.

As Summer is the wet season, it is important to have a water resistant jacket with you.

There are fresh water swimming holes and waterfalls throughout the Daintree Rainforest that you can safely swim in. Be careful not to swim in the Daintree River or any waters that have danger signs as crocodiles like the weather up in North Queensland.

Winter

As the Daintree Rainforest is a tropical climate the temperature during the day does not change much from Summer to Winter. The Winter days are still very hot. Clothing similar to when visiting in summer will be appropriate such as light and loose fitting clothing.

The nights in Winter do cool down a fair bit compared to Summer. A light jumper is recommended for the night time.

As it is the dry season there is much less rain, although it is still recommended to pack a waterproof jacket for Winter and the dry season.

The sun can still be very harsh in Winter, it is still important to protect yourself. Make sure you still wear sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.

A comfortable pair of walking shoes is needed for Winter as well. These shoes should be protective with good grip such as runners or sneakers.

Don't forget to bring a pair of sandals or thongs as well.

When to visit

The best time to visit the Daintree Rainforest is between Winter and Spring as the weather is cooler but still hot. It is also much less likely to rain during these months. Many people prefer Winter and Spring because due to less humidity.
