Inside every single cave, at all times throughout the day and the year, it is always approximately 15 degrees. The caves are under the ground or inside the sides of mountains and are not seen by the sun or affected by any other form of weather.

Summer

When travelling to the Jenolan Caves in Summer make sure your pack cool clothes as the days can get warm. As it is only 15 degrees within the caves make sure you take layers. 

​

To explore inside the caves you will be doing lots of walking. Make sure you bring comfortable and stable walking shoes such as runners or sneakers.

​

Inside the caves you will not need protection from the sun but it is still important to have hat, sunglasses and sunscreen for when you are getting to and from the caves.

 

Taking things inside the caves are limited. A small backpack with a camera, jumper and water is allowed but larger items are not.

​

When staying in surrounding areas of the caves it is important to still bring warmer clothes as it is within a mountain range and can get very cool at night.

​

Winter

When travelling to the Jenolan Caves in Winter the days can be very cold. Warm clothes are needed, especially for night time. It is important in Winter to wear layers when visiting the Caves. Some days can be 1 or 2 degrees outside but inside the caves it will still be approximately 15 degrees. This warmer temperature and the movement you will be doing will heat you up and you will not need as many layers.

A rain jacket should be packed when visiting the Jenolan Caves in Winter to keep you dry when moving to and from the Caves.

​

While it is not as hot in Winter, it is still important to protect yourself from the sun with sun screen and a hat.
